It's official! John Calipari is leaving the Memphis Tigers for University of Kentucky.Calipari is leaving Memphis for an eight-year deal that pays around $35 million. WOW!Honestly, I could care less. I mean, I enjoy Memphis basketball and I was upset that we lost in the Sour (Sweet) Sixteen to Mizzou but this is nothing and I mean nothing to be getting in an uproar about. Yesterday, while coming from the convenience store in the downstairs of my dormitory I heard a few young men discussing this subject and they were really distraught. One asked, "Is this a April Fool's joke? If so, I'm not laughing!"Another replied, "Nah, it's real and it ain't right man."Sure it might not be right but who cares! "Calipari brought money to the city" is one thing I've been hearing over and over and it's true but you can't depend on one individual, a college basketball coach at that to single-handedly elevate Memphis' economy. It just won't happen.I say John Calipari can kick rocks and go to the doctor and a get a whole new foot put on with his $35 million.I found it funny and a little shocking that The University of Memphis' newspaper The Daily Helmsman wrote on the front page: "John Calipari Now Officially Dead To Memphis 1959-2009." Sad to say I've converted to Twitterism. Yes, it's a real religion with devout followers so don't even ask. I wasn't plan on ever joining the site because I thought it was a bunch of hype but after reading an article for one of my journalism classes (http://tinyurl.com/ceed8t) I became really interested in the site. For all who don't know Twitter is a social networking site (although it did not start off as one) that basically allows you to update your status (like on Facebook) in real time. You are able to follow people and get their updates instantly.Twitter is a great tool for people who want to network with others in their field. Also, it's just a fun way to keep in touch with friends. I use it mostly for the latter.Overall, I think the site is useful and fun... it achieves it's purpose. However, it's obvious the site was not ready for the haul of users that have swarmed the infrastructure. TWITTER fails (via "fail whale") and responds slowly at any given time. I think the Twitter.com team needs to update their system and make it more efficient to the millions of unique users that visit it everyday.so...
